Every owner of Bulgarian property has an annual tax liability to the local Municipality in Bulgaria where their property is based.

This is an annual fee which will accrue interest and penalties if it is not paid. Please do not ignore this tax as we have seen far too many cases where people have had to pay penalties that were more than the original tax liability.

Any outstanding property taxes must be paid when property ownership changes hands, it is important that you receive confirmation when you are buying a property in Bulgaria that the taxes are up to date.

It is also important that you factor your tax liability into your figures when you are selling a property.

Please do not assume that your management fees include this tax or that your management company are dealing with them for you.
